About Sebi Tramontana

Italian jazz musician and improviser Sebi Tramontana tried out the guitar, and then the soprano saxophone before settling on the trombone during his early twenties. Later he relocated to Rome to study at A. Casella Conservatorio in L'Aquila; Tramontana had already recorded on a number of Italian jazz albums (with Stefano Maltese and Mario Schiano), and had founded his own trio by the time he graduated in 1990. That same year, Tramontana joined the all-star Italian Instabile Orchestra, which features some of the leaders in Italian creative jazz. During the early '90s, the trombonist was active with solo performances. In 1995, he toured Europe as part of pianist Georg Graewe's quintet. The following year brought him to North America to play at a few avant festivals. In addition to recording several albums with the Italian Instabile Orchestra, Sebi Tramontana has also recorded duo albums with Graewe and bassist Joëlle Léandre. ~ Joslyn Layne
