About P.J. Proby
After spending his early career recording demos for song publishing houses, P.J. Proby placed one of his songs, "Clown Shoes," with Johnny Burnette in 1962. After relocating to England the following year, at the behest of producer Jack Good, Proby scored a Top 3 hit with "Hold Me," while the similarly raucous "Together" reached number 8. Proby changed direction with a series of epic ballads, but as the hits dried up, he was relegated to the cabaret circuit. He continued to release eccentric singles throughout the '80s, including bizarre versions of Joy Division’s "Love Will Tear Us Apart," and made a touring comeback in the '90s and beyond.
