Originally started by singer and guitarist Alex Anguiano as a solo side project from his then-current band, Secret Bangs, Denton, TX punk band Occult Detective Club deliver high-energy revivalist punk that embodies the driving melodies of bands like the Ramones and the Jam, combining the energy and brashness of those bands with a tight, rock-solid sound that adds a new layer of anxious urgency to the old punk rock formula. After Secret Bangs dissolved, Anguiano looked to other musicians from the Texas underground to fill out the lineup, recruiting bassist Tyler Shults, drummer Chris Reeves, and guitarist Andrew Messer. The band set to work recording, releasing its full-length debut, Tortures, on Red Lounge in 2010. They followed up quickly the next year with their sophomore effort, Crimes, which was put out by Alive Naturalsound Records. ~ Gregory Heaney
