About Lungbutter

The visceral, noise-driven minimal experimental rock of Montréal's Lungbutter stems from each member's long-standing involvement in the fertile Canadian D.I.Y. underground scene, with their self-released 2013 debut referencing the likes of Merzbow and Flipper. Formed in 2013 by Ky Brooks, Kaity Zozula, and Joni Sadler -- three friends who had been in numerous experimental noise and punk acts in Montréal -- the trio wasted no time in recording and releasing their debut, Win Some/Lose Most. Channeling the experimental noise of Sonic Youth with the raw, discordant sound of Flipper, the release put them straight onto the underground noise map. The follow-up, Extractor, appeared a year later in 2014, while the group played frequent shows in their home city, and select dates in the U.S. With their lives taking different turns, the trio found themselves on hiatus for a year before reuniting in 2015. Support slots for the likes of Perfect Pussy and Psychic TV saw them playing to bigger audiences and by the end of 2018 they had recorded their debut album with Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Jerusalem in My Heart). Recreating the intense sound of their live shows, the album found a home on Montréal's Constellation Records, with Honey being issued mid-way through 2019. ~ Rich Wilson
