About Local H
The post-grunge power duo Local H broke through in 1996 with As Good as Dead, a Nirvana-esque opus that spawned the churning hit “Bound for the Floor” and withering social critiques such as “High-Fiving MF” and “Eddie Vedder”. Vocalist/guitarist Scott Lucas initially cofounded the band—their name comes from the R.E.M. songs “Oddfellows Local 151” and “Swan Swan H”—in Zion, Illinois, as a quartet in 1990. After releasing the Drum EP the following year, Local H pared down to a duo for the release of their 1995 full-length debut, Ham Fisted. The economical but powerful sound helped Local H endure and thrive; 1998’s Pack Up the Cats featured the self-referential rock radio hit “All the Kids Are Right”. Decades later, Local H continue to release albums and tour, buoyed by a still-ferocious live show and a knack for transformative remakes: a 2021 covers album includes an especially energetic take on Looking Glass’ “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)”.
