Kip Hanrahan

About Kip Hanrahan

Am unclassifiable figure on the contemporary jazz scene, the producer Kip Hanrahan emerged from Carla Bley's Jazz Composer's organization with his 1981 album, COUP DE TETE, self-released on the American Clave label as would all other subsequent productions. Much like fellow producers Hal Willner and John Zorn, Hanrahan would draw on New York's top jazz, rock, and avant-garde musicians (in Hanrahan's case, the top tier of Latin musicians, especially) to create eclectic, kaleidoscopic musical melanges that more often than not would touch on Hanrahan's own New York biography and love life. He also has worked closely with the Nuevo Tango master Astor Piazzolla, producing the 1985 masterpiece ZERO HOUR.
