About Deuter

Over the past five decades, multi-instrumentalist Georg Deuter has pioneered the New Age genre with a catalog of more than 60 albums. ∙ Mixing Eastern folk influences with Western sound collage experimentation, Deuter’s first two albums—1971’s D and 1972’sAum—helped establish the krautrock genre. ∙ Throughout the ’70s and ’80s, the prolific composer had many years during which he released multiple albums—including seven LPs in 1975 alone. ∙ After hearing the 1976 album Celebration, legendary jazz saxophonist Ornette Coleman said that Deuter had “captured light in his music.” ∙ With only a portable 4-track tape machine, he ingeniously recorded 16 separate inputs of instruments and Indian nature sounds for his acclaimed 1978 album, Haleakala. ∙ For the best-selling album Land of Enchantment, Deuter traveled to France, Hawaii, and New Mexico to find geo-specific sonic textures for “Pierrot,” “Maui Morning,” and “Santa Fe.” ∙ In 2015, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the ZMR Music Awards, which celebrate New Age, World, and Ambient artists, labels, and radio programmers.
