About Boris
Melding the very heaviest of rock sounds into their own special alloy, Boris have unleashed a formidable onslaught of bruising, thrilling music since forming in Tokyo in 1992. Originally a quartet named after a song by the American underground rock icons Melvins, the young band soon coalesced into the power trio of guitarist Wata, bassist Takeshi and drummer Atsuo, all of whom share vocal duties. On breakthrough international releases like 2003’s Akuma No Uta and 2005’s Pink, Boris maintain a ferocious momentum while also showcasing a remarkable stylistic diversity. Doom, stoner rock, avant-garde metal, psychedelia and shoegaze are all prominent components in the sound of Boris' albums as well as their collaborations with fellow mavericks like sunn O))), guitarist Keiji Haino and—on the 2010 EP BXI—The Cult’s Ian Astbury. Released in 2022, and the third of their albums to bear the same title, Heavy Rocks is another thunderous display of their undiminished powers.
