About BNNT

BNNT are a Polish noise-rock performance art duo consisting of Konrad Smoleński and Daniel Szwed. The duo are known for their conceptual, theatrical performances, including spontaneous public happenings delivered on city streets from the duo's modified van. The balaclava-clad performers set up a makeshift stage, and Szwed plays aggressive, improvised drum rhythms while Smoleński makes noise using his "baritone missile," a stringed instrument resembling a Tomahawk missile. The duo have sporadically released studio recordings which enhance their sonic attack with samples from movies ranging from War of the Worlds to Trash Humpers, as well as additional instrumentation such as brass and vibraphone. Smoleński began BNNT as a solo performance act in 2008, and was soon joined by drummer Szwed. After several years of unpredictable performances, BNNT's debut full-length, __, was released by Qulturap in 2012. The dense, overhelming album featured guest appearances from members of Polish groups Niwea and Stara Rzeka, and was mastered by Weasel Walter. The duo's second album, the more hypnotic Multiverse, was released by Instant Classic in 2017, and included collaborations with saxophonist Mats Gustafsson. ~ Paul Simpson
