Back in 2021, Farruko was riding high off of the tremendous international success of his La 167 single “Pepas”. The hitmaking Puerto Rican rapper built a career off of his streetwise style, marked by major singles like the bilingual trap smash “Krippy Kush”, as well as more commercial fare, such as “Calma”, that elevated his star status. By the winter of 2022, he experienced a crisis of faith and essentially renounced much of his catalogue. The decidedly Christian content of his subsequent tracks may have surprised some of his more secular fans, but as his Carbon Fiber Music label’s Transition compilation shows, he continues to hold space for the Latin music fans who loved his reggaetón and hip-hop. Some of the imprint’s more outlandish acts are gone, but those who remain and those who’ve come aboard since are well worth hearing. One of his finest signees, Menor Menor exudes gratitude to God on “Bless Mode” and, with Milly and David Muguercia in tow, to Farruko himself on “Sueño”. Emanuel Lara and Nino Freestyle flow together over the booming “Who Who”, while Christian Ponce hits the dance floor with paradise on his mind on the “Pepas”-esque “Eternidad”. A noteworthy moment, “Someone” combines Tati, Aylin and Jimmy Levy for an English language ballad that brings R&B and rap together in pop-centric fashion. Naturally, Farruko makes multiple vocal appearances here as well, favouring collaborations over the solo spotlight. He soars opposite Dalex on the gospel-infused “Confía” and with artist/producer ULLOΛ on the praiseful “Afrobocelli”.
