No band more thoroughly embodied SoCal ska-punk than Sublime. Of course, it didn't hurt that the group were gifted with the late Bradley Nowell, a singer/songwriter who penned tunes packed with infectious bounce and absurdly witty lyrics. When the Long Beach trio first emerged in the late '80s, they leaned heavily on buzz-saw guitars, manic tempos and slacker humour. By the time they released 1996's self-titled album, they had morphed into an eclectic outfit layering sunbaked G-funk beats, dubby reverb and droning blues licks into pop gems like “Santeria” and the deliciously hypnotic “What I Got”.
