Selects: Bonobo

In the spirit of Bonobo’s latest album Fragments, his picks for his Selects playlist are decidedly club-oriented—dense, heady, spiralling tracks that sturdy themselves on reliable grooves. “This playlist is a broad selection of new music I’m currently listening to and some old favourites and club classics,” the UK-born, LA-based producer tells Apple Music. “It’s a good idea of where my head is at musically in terms of where we are now, and where we’ve been.” He’s peppered songs from Fragments throughout—the hazy, shuffling “Rosewood” tees up “Holographic”, a Vince Watson hat-tip to Carl Craig—in an effort to gesture at his creative inspiration. “The singles sit alongside some new current music that feels like it’s from the same place stylistically,” he says. (Later on, he sandwiches himself between soulful selections by Overmono and Ross From Friends, which feels like a perfect snapshot of his ravey aesthetic.) But it wouldn’t be a Bonobo project if it didn’t have some serious, immersive, downtempo vibes, and he cuts to it quickly by kicking things off with “Space 1”, an ambient piece by the Caribbean Belgian composer Nala Sinephro. “I’m always drawn to the harp in any form,” he adds.
