Lucy Peach is a singer and self-professed “period preacher” who is advocating for more openness and pride around the subject of menstruation. This is one of four playlists she made for Apple Music—one for each phase of the cycle. Here’s what she has to say about this one: “In the last week-ish before your period, your hormones are falling rapidly. Welcome to the Take Phase. It’s the most misunderstood and maligned part of the cycle, and it’s time we owned it. No one can tell by looking at you that you are getting ready to let go again, so it’s up to you to take what you need. If something annoys you every time you’re in the Take Phase, take notice, but maybe act later (but also do what you want). Channel some of this energy into creativity or doing what makes you feel like you. The way you take care of yourself now will affect your next period, so take the easy road, some time alone and the biggest piece of cake. You’ve got this.”
