Julian Cope is one of the most unusual artists to emerge from the post-punk movement. As both a founding member of The Teardrop Explodes and a prolific solo artist, he has devoted his career to creating idiosyncratic permutations of neo-psychedelia informed by his deep knowledge of shamanic culture, occult history and altered states of mind. Through the years, Cope has incorporated an impressive breadth of instrumentation, including atmospheric synthesisers and hard-rocking guitars, yet the results are always the same: strange and hypnotic tunes that sound utterly unlike anything else.
