This Swedish trio, led by the late pianist Esbjörn Svensson, fashioned its sound from an intriguing variety of influences: the swing of fusion jazz, the overdubbing studio art of rock outfits and the harmonic movement of some contemporary classical music. Bassist Dan Berglund contributed pizzicato grooves as well as bowed sounds processed by electronic means, while drummer Magnus Öström offered crisp accompaniment to Svensson's chord progressions and single-note runs. This mix celebrates the group's talent for channelling graceful energy as well as sublime repose.
