Cantopop is not known for its bands. The punk-indie quartet Dear Jane is one of the few embraced by Hong Kong's mainstream music scene. Guitar-driven, their jaunty riffs and expansive sound grab you immediately—and they don't let go. The name comes from the break-up letter 'Dear John' but with the perspective reversed, and it's this male point of view that also shines through in their lyrics. Singing in Cantonese, their music captures portraits of love and survival in sometimes brutal and materialistic Hong Kong.
