Dean Parisot & Jonathan Leahy’s Genre-Hopping Musical Time Machine

“When we first started working together on this movie, we had a lot of conversations about how the sonic fingerprints of 1989 were all over the pop music landscape of today. With a project like Bill & Ted, there’s going to be an element of nostalgia, and a natural desire to reach back for the sounds of another era,” Jonathan Leahy, music supervisor for Bill & Ted Face the Music, tells Apple Music about this exclusive playlist he made with the film’s director Dean Parisot. “We found a ton of inspiration in the music being made by contemporary artists that drew upon pre-grunge rock and pop but still felt thoroughly modern. We also spent plenty of time revisiting the source material that is the foundation of the first two films. In the end, it’s amazing to me how naturally these songs from different eras fit together on a single playlist.”
