DAOKO Essentials

DAOKO Essentials

Listening to Tokyo's DAOKO can give a surprising jolt. She coos as if in a daydream on 2013 hit "okay!", yet she can rap circles around other Japanese stars, cast a disco spell with cuts like "TOKYO-KICK-ASS" and turn up the sensuality on love jams like "Irony". Clearly DAOKO is no musical lightweight having dropped her first album, Hypergirl, when she was just 15, and has released a record nearly every year since. 2017's Thank You Blue saw yet another new DAOKO emerge, exploring more robust hip-hop, trip hop and funk arrangements. And a cameo on Beck's pumping "Up All Night" is just a bonus.
