Buraka Som Sistema Essentials

As chaotic and complicated as the modern world, Buraka Som Sistema was formed in the early '00s by a group of Lisbon producers inspired by kuduro, the Caribbean-rooted dance music of Angola. Their 2006 debut, From Buraka to the World, is a head-spinning Afrofuturist hybrid of techno, jungle, hip-hop, soca, and kuduro that boils over with thick beats, humanizing hand percussion, and breakneck vocals. Buraka raised the stakes on 2008's Black Diamond, which portrayed a world in constant, frantic, and exhilarating motion.
