Bruno Coulais Essentials

The universe of French composer Bruno Coulais is one in which contemporary classical music, dark fairy tales, Corsican polyphony and even Tibetan choirs harmoniously coexist. Coulais' work captures a gorgeous sense of wonder without kitsch—his music is playful and magical without being childish. The composer's work was largely for television through the '80s, but he established himself in a huge way with the enchanting score to the 1996 documentary “Microcosmos”. Coulais maintains a love for the purity of children's voices, and you'll hear gorgeous singing through many of these picks.
