At Home with Tainy: The Playlist

Puerto Rican record producer and songwriter Tainy’s earliest musical memory was purchasing a CD of LINKIN PARK’s Hybrid Theory when he was in middle school. “I saved up to be able to go buy an album for the first time—I heard the song ‘Crawling’ and it drove me crazy with the sounds and the atmosphere that it has,” he tells Apple Music about the track that kicks off this early-to-mid-2000s-inspired exclusive Apple Music playlist curated by Tainy himself. “In Puerto Rico, at that time, you were either super rock or you were straight rap or reggaetón, so you had to like either one of them.” In his interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music’s At Home With series, Tainy also goes into his early days working with reggaetón production duo Luny Tunes, being inspired by Timbaland and his first time meeting J Balvin. “I’m a huge fan of different types of music,” he says about the rest of the playlist, which includes an epic mash-up of rock (System Of A Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers), hip-hop (Eminem, 50 Cent) and reggaetón (Daddy Yankee, Don Omar). “These are the types of sounds that really inspire me that I was aspiring to do, but I didn’t always have the opportunity to express myself in those ways.”
