About The Radio Dept.
Fronted by singer/guitarist Johan Duncanson, the Radio Dept. excels at dreamy indie rock informed by the New Wave, shoegaze, and noise-pop movements. While the Swedish band’s full-length debut, LESSER MATTERS, featured a fuzzed-out Jesus & Mary Chain sound, its follow-up, PET GRIEF, called on the Pet Shop Boys as an unlikely, but surprisingly effective, touchstone. Duncanson and company gained a bit of wider exposure after director Sofia Coppola featured three of the ensemble’s songs on her MARIE ANTOINETTE soundtrack, but the group primarily remains a revered-yet-underrated act.
