About Terje Rypdal

Globally renowned as the "tone poet of the Fender Stratocaster," Norwegian guitarist Terje Rypdal is possessed of an instantly recognizable yet mercurial playing style that exists at the intersection of classical, jazz, and rock. In 1971, after cutting Sart for ECM with Jan Garbarek, he issued his self-titled debut for the label, melding European jazz to progressive rock; 1975's Odyssey defined the early part of his career. 1981's To Be Continued, the second of two dates with Jack DeJohnette and Miroslav Vitous, became a fusion classic. Later that decade, Rypdal issued a trilogy as Terje Rypdal & the Chasers. In 1992, he released the concerto Q.E.D., but returned to jazz with 1996's Skywards, then back to classical in 2000 with Double Concerto: 5th Symphony. 2010's Crime Scene was a live film noir concept album, while 2013's Melodic Warrior featured the Hilliard Ensemble, Bruckner Orchester Linz, and the Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra.
