Original Salty Dogs

About Original Salty Dogs

One of the Midwestern bands that came out of the Dixieland revival movement of the 1940s, the Original Salty Dogs helped to repopularize traditional New Orleans and Chicago jazz. Initially a campus band at Purdue, the group garnered wider attention in the '50s and '60s with the LPs New Orleans Shuffle and On the Right Track. They also recorded with Turk Murphy and singer Carol Leigh. Despite many lineup changes, the band have enjoyed decades of activity, releasing albums like 1985's Greetings from Honky Tonk Town, 1992's Joy, Joy, Joy, and 2003's In New Orleans.
