About Lawrence Brownlee

Tenor Lawrence Brownlee is best known for his finesse in bel canto roles, routinely drawing accolades for his elegant phrasing and his agility in high tessituras. In 2015, Brownlee debuted the role of Charlie Parker in Daniel Schnyder's opera Yardbird with Opera Philadelphia, where he serves as artistic advisor. Brownlee is an avid participant in community outreach and organizing. In 2018, he premiered Tyshawn Sorey's song cycle, Cycles of My Being, and he was among the artists chosen to perform at Jessye Norman's funeral in 2019. Brownlee's recording career began on a 2005 release of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. In 2014, Brownlee issued Virtuoso Rossini Arias, which earned a Grammy nomination. He appeared opposite Michael Spyres in 2020 on an album of Rossini duets, Rossini: Amici e Rivali.
