About KayGee DaKing
Three years after the Auto-Tuned slow roll of his 2017 debut, "6Digits", rapper KayGee DaKing smashed into South Africa's emerging amapiano scene with the social-media hit "Kokota". A tensely euphoric slice of inviting Afrohouse, "Kokota" featured KayGee's rapping girlfriend Bizizi and provided a template for the pair's next several releases, as well as for KayGee's superbly focused 2020 album Double Dragon. Born Kagiso Mashiane in Naledi, Soweto, in 1994, KayGee worked as a touring dancer/choreographer with the dance crew Soweto's Finest from 2013 to 2015 before devoting himself to music full-time. In 2016, he cofounded the label Too Lit and began working with producer Neasy Beatz, who recorded, mixed, and mastered KayGee's subsequent releases, evoking the sound of a Volkswagen GTI engine on "Wututu" and transforming kid culture into cutting-edge house music in "Pikachu". KayGee and Bizizi met in 2015 while they both were dancing professionally, and the pair's 2020 collaboration with Soweto's Finest, "Tikoloshi", is a kinetic family reunion with a couple of million YouTube views.
