About Gli Incogniti

The historical-performance group Gli Incogniti did not try to be self-deprecating with their name, taken from that of the Accademia degli Incogniti, a 17th century gathering of Venetian intellectuals. It refers as well to the group's tendency to explore little-known repertory by the likes of Johann Rosenmüller as well as by such Baroque giants. Gli Incogniti was founded by violinist Amandine Beyer in 2006 and made their recording debut a year later with an album of Bach violin concertos. A 2008 album featuring Vivaldi's Four Seasons was both critically and commercially successful. Their 2016 release Un orage d'Avril once again showed their ability to apply fresh approaches to extremely familiar material. The group issued such novel releases as Johann Sebastian Bach: BWV ... or Not (2017). In 2022, with Beyer as soloist, Gli Incogniti released the album Vivaldi: Il Mondo al Rovescio.
