About Egil Fylling

New age composer and keyboardist Egil Fylling often combines field recordings of nature with symphonic and meditative synth work. He also strays into different musical territory such as progressive rock and folk music. Classically trained, Fylling has been inspired to write much of his music by the natural settings of his home in Norway. However, both Made in Heaven (1985) and Bound for Space (1987) were group efforts with a dense sound that drew more from progressive symphonic rock than new age with layers of keyboards, guitars, and female vocals. 1990's For Earth Below found the composer entering the second phase of his musical career, utilizing more of an ambient sound with more of an emphasis on his keyboard work. His later albums have focused on a variety of styles such as an album of instrumental versions of Norwegian Christmas tunes (Englene Sang Den) (1997), a concept album on the creation of the universe (In the Trees Near By), and works designed for meditative work such as Anhata (1999). His music has been used a great deal by Norwegian State Broadcasting. ~ Geoff Orens
