Denis Leary

About Denis Leary

Standup Denis Leary shot to MTV-fueled stardom in the early 1990s with rants against the politically correct or anyone he perceived as weak-willed, a rebellious Bill Hicks with slightly less cause. Armed with a blues-rock backing band, an ever-smoldering cigarette, and a sneer punctuating every punchline, Leary scored one of the bigger comic LPs of the ‘90s with NO CURE FOR CANCER, featuring the minor hit "Asshole." While Leary would establish himself as a familiar television face by the next decade with his wrenching performances as blue-collar workers spiraling out of control, he would continue to periodically return to standup.
