About Bixiga 70

Formed in São Paulo in 2010, Bixiga 70 is a ten-piece instrumental ensemble that mixes Brazilian, Afrobeat, and Latin influences in one big funky cauldron. Equally inspired by the likes of Gilberto Gil, Hermeto Pascoal, and Chico Science as well as Fela Kuti or Mulatu Astatke, Bixiga 70 released its eponymous debut in 2011 to widespread critical acclaim. The same pattern would continue throughout the decade, as more releases, including The Copan Connection: Bixiga 70 Meets Victor Rice (2016), Quebra-Cabeça (2018), and Vapor (2023), and festival appearances allowed the band to become a regular presence on the European world music circuit.
