About Alessandro Tampieri
As concertmaster of the influential Accademia Bizantina ensemble, violinist Alessandro Tampieri is a major figure in the Italian historical performance movement. He is a versatile figure who also plays viola, viola d'amore, guitar, and lute. At 15, Tampieri joined Accademia Bizantina as a second violinist. By 2011, he had become the group's concertmaster, continuing to hold that position as of the mid-2020s. Tampieri made his recording debut in 1997 as a violist with the group L'Astrée on the album Felice Giardini: Cinque Quartetti dedicati ai Duchi di Devonshire. In 2011, he made his debut as a featured artist, playing viola on an album of baryton trios by Haydn. In 2024, he joined Accademia Bizantina and countertenor Andreas Scholl on the album Invocazioni Mariane, a collection of Marian works from 18th century Naples.
