Walk Off the Earth Essentials

Walk Off the Earth’s triumphant, uplifting folk-pop makes a lot of sense when you consider the band’s motto: “Realise Every Victory Outright”. Formed in 2006, the Canadian quintet skyrocketed to international consciousness with their understated 2012 cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know”, accompanied by a video where all members played it simultaneously on the same guitar. But the most telling thing about a Walk Off the Earth tune might be the percussion—you can always move to it. The band sets rhythm front and centre by incorporating grooves that nod to Latin pop (“I’ll Be There”), reggae (“Rule the World”) and disco (“Nomad”).
