Peruzzi Essentials

Peruzzi emerged into pop culture consciousness at a still period when the Nigerian soundscape was entrenched in the mellow pon pon sound, unyielding to the introduction of new sounds. With a co-sign from Davido, who signed him to his imprint, DMW, Peruzzi developed his craft and honed his voice, contributing to the stash of posse cuts the label unleashed in 2018, injecting a much needed dynamism to songs like "Mind" and “Aje". His myriad of talents would soon command attention from his peers with the singer rattling up high-caliber collaborations with 2Baba on the pulpy “Amaka”, and also augmenting songs like Davido’s "FIA", Larry Gaaga’s "Doe" and DJ Ecool's "Ada" with his polished writing. On his debut project, 2018’s Heartwork, Peruzzi’s bold, dancehall-infused vocals came into the spotlight, fully fleshed out on the EP’s standouts, "Champion Lover" and "Majesty". There would be more dynamism to his artistry on his sophomore album, Huncho Vibez, released in 2019. Blending dancehall and Afropop elements, the ten-track project swings from the bright and engrossing “Sunshine” to the charming and expressive “Only One”. On his extensive third album, 2021’s Rum & Boogie, Peruzzi’s fondness for collaboration comes to the fore, spreading a sprawling caste of guests across 20 songs and helping to produce a glossy, cohesive theme. Retaining his unmatched zeal, Peruzzi (real name Tobechukwu Victor) sounds loose and playful than ever, deploying a smooth delivery on the Fireboy DML-assisted “Southy Love”.
