Hellions: Influences

Sydney's Hellions have never been interested in sticking to one genre, as this playlist they've curated suggests. Their music might be closely aligned with the pop-punk energy of Paramore and the modern rock melodies of The 1975, but 2016's Opera Oblivia also subscribed to Queen's musical shape shifting and sense of grandeur. Accordingly, they're just as comfortable taking a leaf out of Kendrick Lamar's book in the rapped verses of “Furrow” as they are leaning on the '80s throwback pop of Fleetwood Mac and Phil Collins to inform their sense of melody. The Jackson 5, meanwhile, speaks of a band for whom groove is paramount.
