Axel Boman Essentials

Since the late 2000s, Sweden’s Axel Boman has become known for lush, entrancing deep house shot through with an unusually lighthearted spirit. The Stockholm native, born in 1991, first began turning heads with songs like 2010’s “Purple Drank”, a woozy, late-night jam with an unforgettable pitched-down vocal hook; over the next few years, he showed off his range with easy-listening samples, inventive drum programming, and an unusual facility for slipping between the wistful and the unhinged. Studio Barnhus, the label Boman cofounded in 2010 with Kornél Kovács and Petter Nordkvist, has built its brand on a similarly slippery emotive register, and Boman frequently turns up in the company of equally hard-to-pin-down collaborators, like DJ Koze or John Talabot, with whom he formed the Krautrock-influenced duo Talaboman.
