In his music as Lumi Athena, Marco Antonio Speck Gurrola packs his frenetic tracks with beats and hooks, ensuring they move at maximum velocity. The results have generated great excitement for the Mexican producer and rapper—who was born in 2006 and grew up in Guadalajara—and for KRUSHCLUB!, the microgenre he created. Further augmenting his songs and videos with sounds and images drawn from games and anime, Lumi Athena established his forte for woozy, high-impact tracks with his 2022 single "Sex & Drugs Ain't Enough!" and the same year's Egoista: Love Yourself!, an EP that showcases his supercharged fusion of EDM, hip-hop, house and Jersey club. Two singles released in 2023, "Let Me See Ya Move!" and the equally brash "Smoke It Off!" solidified Lumi Athena's place among a new wave of rebellious and online electronic music producers, including Odetari, cade clair and 9lives, three of his sometime collaborators.
