Jungle Essentials

Not to be confused with the techno genre that exploded in the mid-’90s, this West London outfit are a frenetic neo-soul collective steered by old friends Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland. Originally operating under the shadowy aliases of “J” and “T” when they emerged from Shepherd's Bush in 2013, Jungle helped accelerate the nu-funk revival with cuts like “Busy Earnin’”, a delicious bop full of infectious grooves, vintage horns and retro double-tracked vocals. Their 2014 self-titled debut LP garnered a Mercury nomination, before 2018’s For Ever—featuring spacious, loping bangers like “Smile”—further delivered on the early hype.
