Since the Mexican Revolution of the early 1900s, corridos have told the stories of burdened peasants and working-class Mexicanos. A century later, Tijuana’s Grupo Codiciado arrived to make a name for themselves breathing energy into the classic formula, while maintaining the traditional feel of norteño ballads. The vivacious quintet’s sound is brimming with buoyant energy just as much in the corridos of 2016’s menacingly accordion-driven debut album, Si Lo Digo Es Porque Puedo, as in the stylish and spirited brass sections of their third LP, Loqueando Con Banda, Vol. 1.
