For a special Africa Month edition of our Apple Music Home Sessions—in which we ask artists to record stripped-back versions of their biggest hits, along with covers of some timeless classics—Nigerian producer-turned-artist Young Jonn revisits some his favourite West African hits. Here you’ll find reimagined versions of Lagbaja’s 2005 hit, “Never Far Away”, and the 2002 single, “What A Feeling” by Beautiful Nubia. “It was an honour to record these classics,” Young Jonn tells Apple Music. “Reimagining and recording these songs brought back treasured memories. These songs are meaningful to me because they have had a significant effect on my music, particularly my choice of melody.” Young Jonn also presents a version of “Xtra Cool” his 2022 hit from his sophomore EP, Love Is Not Enough, Vol. 1. “I've grown a lot as an artist since releasing this song,” Jonn explains. “‘Xtra Cool’ introduced me to a new audience and a whole different experience. It's just gotten better from then.”
