David Barrus

About David Barrus

With a clear and resonant tenor, David Barrus has considerable talent to offer. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Brigham Young University and is expected to earn a master's degree from the University of Connecticut. He's a versatile performer, not only covering Broadway roles, but also covering popular Latter-day Saint hymns in a dramatic and broad style indicative of his training for the stage. He has also performed Shakespeare onstage. His past roles include Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, Tony in West Side Story, Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Miles Gloriosis in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He originated the role of Ham in Michael McLean and Kevin Kelly's production of The Ark, and recorded the role for the album of the same name. He released his first solo album in 1998, On Stage, which won two Pearl Awards from the FCMA. He released a second album, Beautiful Savior in 1999, which covered LDS hymns. Barrus is the son of the late Clyn D. Barrus, who headed the Utah Valley School of Music and Symphony. He and wife Amy reside in Provo, Utah. ~ Dacia A. Blodgett-Williams
