Flowers II

Flowers II

In a follow-up to his debut EP, 2020’s Flowers, singer-songwriter Rayvanny offers a set of romantically inclined songs that employ both English and Swahili lyrics. Folding in elements of R&B, Afrobeats, pop and bongo flava, the Tanzanian crooner references regional sounds by enlisting Nigeria’s Guchi, Zimbabwe’s Roki and Kenya’s Nadia Mukami alongside compatriots Ray C, Marioo and Zuchu. The rhythmic ballad “Bonnie & Clyde” anchors the EP, while opener and closer “I Miss You” and “Te Quiero” are both infused with reggaetón percussion. Between these upbeat tracks, the acoustic “Wanaweweseka” maintains the lively tempo, while the sensual “Honey” captures the album’s emotive aesthetic.
