SEVENTEEN: Music That Moves Me

SEVENTEEN: Music That Moves Me

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, SEVENTEEN have assembled to present us with the music that gets them in the zone when it comes to smashing a workout, warming up or just chilling out. The K-pop stars’ Music That Moves Me playlist features everything from country (courtesy of Beyoncé, selected by WOOZI), rock anthems (via VERNON, who’s picked Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine”—a song that can’t fail to get you pumped), old-school R&B sounds, pop bangersand, of course, some choice SEVENTEEN hits. But this playlist isn’t just about raising that pulse. Here, SEVENTEEN’s members have handpicked moments to also help CARATs “when they’re feeling contemplative”, as S.COUPS tells Apple Music, “looking to focus and concentrate” (says JEONGHAN), “pick up their mood” (adds JOSHUA) or, as THE8 puts it, “take time out for yourself as you ease your body and mind”. So, whatever you choose next to focus on you, let this be your soundtrack—and keep reading for every band member’s thoughts on why this is the music that moves them. S.COUPS: keshi, “LIMBO” and Benson Boone, “Beautiful Things” “For music that gets me pumped for a workout, I picked keshi’s ‘LIMBO’ and Benson Boone’s ‘Beautiful Things’. Both give me an energy boost even though they’re not very beat-driven. They’re also great to listen to after workouts, when I’m winding down at the end of the day and collecting my thoughts. I think CARATs will find these tracks helpful when they’re feeling contemplative.” JEONGHAN: Block B, “A Few Years Later” and LE SSERAFIM, “EASY” “These are songs for when I just want to walk or work out, without thinking about anything. Like the title says, LE SSERAFIM’s ‘EASY’ is easy listening. It really lets me be present in the here and now. Block B’s ‘A Few Years Later’ has a nice breezy melody. I’ve been listening to it for years and it still holds up. These songs are for CARATs looking to focus and concentrate, rather than high-intensity workouts.” JOSHUA: Shawn Mendes & Justin Bieber, “Monster” and Stacey Ryan, “Fall in Love Alone” “I picked songs both for when I’m feeling low and when I’m feeling good. Listening to ‘Monster’ when I’m feeling down really lets me get in touch with my emotions at a deeper level. It’s also great for when I need to collect my thoughts. ‘Fall in Love Alone’ is a track I play often; it gets you humming along when you’re in a good mood. I hope these tracks will help CARATs pick up their mood.” JUN: Jam Hsiao, “A Love Song for You” and Eason Chan, “好久不见” (“Long Time No See”) “For everyone at CARAT, I chose tracks that go perfectly with the nice spring weather. [That’s] when I feel like going for evening walks rather than working out, and these are my go-to tracks. I hope CARATs will find them enjoyable as well!” HOSHI: No Guidnce, “Is It a Crime?” and SEVENTEEN, “MAESTRO” “Although hard-driving songs are great for workouts, sometimes when I want to hear something that’s more R&B, I play ‘Is It a Crime?’ by No Guidnce. It’s an old-school R&B tune where the four members harmonise beautifully. If you’re looking for something a little different at the gym, give it a listen. And you can’t have a workout playlist without one of our tracks. I’ll go with ‘MAESTRO’, the first track from our greatest hits album [17 IS RIGHT HERE]. It will pump you right up with energy!” WONWOO: Sung Si Kyung, “Solar System” and Kenshi Yonezu, “LADY” “When I’m exercising or concentrating on something, I tend to listen closely to song lyrics. In lovely weather, I find myself listening more to songs that help me concentrate. Here are some songs with pleasant melodies and great lyrics that go nicely with mild weather. They have relatable lyrics and warm vibes, so check them out!” WOOZI: Beyoncé, “JOLENE” and Kane Brown, “I Can Feel It” “It’s always a joy to listen to new music that’s coming out. Recently, I’ve been getting into country music while working out—tracks like Beyoncé’s ‘JOLENE’ and Kane Brown’s ‘I Can Feel It’. These songs bring something new in terms of vocal styles, dynamic buildups and memorable guitar riffs. I think you’ll find them energising to listen to while exercising.” THE8: The Weeknd & Madonna, “Popular” (feat. Playboi Carti) and Koffee, “W” (feat. Gunna) “Recently, I’ve moved away from intense physical activity and focused more on calm moments. So I’m listening to songs that are soothing or uplifting. Both of the tracks I’ve picked fall into this category. I’m sure there are CARATs out there who want to kick back and enjoy a moment of peace and serenity. I hope these songs will help you take time out for yourself as you ease your body and mind.” MINGYU: Jacob Collier, “100,000 Voices” and Tyla, “Butterflies” “I usually enjoy songs that have dynamic melodies or rapid beats. But when I want something to soothe my heart and ears, I go for tunes like Jacob Collier’s ‘100,000 Voices’. Like the title suggests, it’s an immensely moving song. I’m also really into Tyla’s ‘Butterflies’ these days. It has this smooth feel that goes nicely with anything I’m doing, be it workouts or walks.” DK: DAY6, “HAPPY” and LUCY, “Prequel” “I’ve always loved DAY6. They came back with this track after such a long time [away] and listening to it is just so touching. It’s so great to finally hear new stuff from them! Sometimes, the various songs we listen to inspire us to try out new personal or musical challenges. ‘Prequel’ by LUCY is one of my favourite songs; I’d love to try singing my own version of it!” SEUNGKWAN: TWICE, “I GOT YOU” and DAY6, “Welcome to the Show” “I picked TWICE’s ‘I GOT YOU’ and ‘Welcome to the Show’ by DAY6. ‘I GOT YOU’ has a bumping beat that’s great for any activity, but it also has a dreamy feel to it that makes it perfect for an evening drive. I love ‘Welcome to the Show’ because of how inspirational it makes me feel. If you’re into rock, be sure to give it a listen!” VERNON: Guns N’ Roses, “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and SEVENTEEN, “Rock with you” “Here are some of my usual go-to tracks. ‘Rock with you’ is my favourite SEVENTEEN track, with a lively beat to pump you up for a workout. ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ has a monster riff that really grabs your attention and helps you focus.” DINO: brb., “undone” and Ella Mai, “Trip” “I love both of these songs so much. I play them during workouts and also just during the day. Ella Mai’s ‘Trip’ is perfect for warmup sessions. I came across ‘undone’ by brb. and it’s been in my playlist since. I hope these songs will be as uplifting for CARATs as they are for me.”
