La Avanzada Regia

In the ‘90s, the music scene in Monterrey, Mexico, gave birth to a generation of bold musicians who freely mixed rock, hip-hop, hard funk, Britpop and dance grooves with homegrown elements like cumbia—spurred in part by the region's geographic and cultural proximity to the U.S. The Monterrey sound helped spawn such successes as Control Machete and Kinky, and is often described as Mexico's equivalent to Seattle's grunge.
