Hüsker Dü Essentials

Hüsker Dü might be considered the first American post-hardcore band. The Minneapolis trio began as a blisteringly fast hardcore act, but quickly broke through the genre's stylistic limitations with elements of '60s psychedelia and pop melody. Anchored by the songwriting talents of guitarist Bob Mould and drummer Grant Hart, the band rose quickly from SST to Warner Bros for two critically acclaimed albums before an acrimonious split in '88. Their remarkable catalogue created the template for bands like Nirvana and Pixies, who largely established the sound of '90s alt-rock.
