About Oded Tzur

Tzur is a New York-based saxophonist, composer, and bandleader who uses his warm, yearning, resonant tone to explore fundamental connections between musical traditions including modal jazz, Indian classical, and microtonal. He developed "The Middle Path" saxophone technique, which extends the instrument's microtonal capacity, to play original, narratively centered compositions influenced by storytelling cultures. His music continually explores relationships between hidden, ancient, and modern musical traditions. 2015's Like a Great River and Translator's Note were issued by Yellowbird in 2015 and 2017, respectively. He signed to ECM for 2020's widely acclaimed Here Be Dragons and followed with Isabela in 2022, melding raga and jazz in a new compositional approach.
