Reuniting with the lineup that recorded Carioca in 2008, Italian pianist Stefano Bollani brings a rhapsodic, heart-on-sleeve commitment to another beautiful set of Brazilian jazz. But Que Bom adds a second percussionist (Thiago da Serrinha) for more rhythmic thrust and texture, a choice that pays off. The vocal tracks with greats Caetano Veloso and João Bosco are captivating, and the brisk choro with bandolim virtuoso Hamilton de Holanda is a stunner. But underneath it all, Bollani’s flawless technique and bountiful melodic sense still linger the most.
