Brought together by DJs Maft Sai and Chris Menist, the Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band emerged in 2012 as a means to revive molam, a strain of Thai and Laotian country music. The septet use traditional regional instruments such as the phin and khaen to update the style, incorporating folk, blues and reggae influences to create a truly global, hybrid sound. Debuting in 2014 with album 21st Century Molam, they’ve since been successful in reviving interest in a near-forgotten genre, not only in Thailand but also abroad.
