Pollo Essentials

São Paulo MCs Luiz Tomim and Adriel de Menezes established Pollo in 2010, before being joined by DJ Kalfani, and set about bringing pop cheer to Brazilian hip-hop. After recording at home and distributing their music online, their DIY rap revolution saw smooth R&B choruses and finger-picked acoustic guitars lend a gentle edge to fast-flowing rhymes. “Vagalumes” was their breakthrough track, but the hits have come thick and fast since then: “Overdose De Amore” and “Love Song” are The Weeknd-ish and show off their romantic side, while “Pirituba City” has enough 808 bass to make a room shake.
