Khalil's Music Encyclopedia Vol. 1: Blues

Singer/songwriter/producer Khalil Fong sits in as Apple Music's Guest Curator of the Month with four exclusive playlists featuring the styles that have influenced him most. First off, Khalil takes us on a tour through the sweet sorrows of the blues. “The blues started in the late 19th century. I started playing guitar around 14-15 years old, but had already been listening to the blues from an early age. Just as a many people vent their emotions through rock, back in the day the blues was a way to let out feelings about your worries and troubles. It may sound a bit sorrowful and helpless because originally, R&B (rhythm and blues) comes from the cultures of enslaved Africans and their descendants in the US. It's since evolved into its own musical style performed on Western instruments like the guitar, and even adding rock elements.”
