Active since the early '90s, face-painted black-metal stalwarts Immortal have always growled about what they know best—especially winters that never end, an appropriate theme in their native Norway. The eternal ice age in their songs is inhabited by blizzard beasts, frost demons and battling warriors, often occupying a mythical dimension known as Blashyrkh. While their metal is relentless in its quest to pulverise, it's also surprisingly sophisticated, packed with concrete riffs and melodies that shift like massive icebergs, amplifying the frozen mood.
